Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo was voted as the best player for the 2013-14 after his stellar performances with Spanish giants, ahead of Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben and Barcelona's Lionel Messi, by Goal.com.
The Portuguese talisman was the heart of Real's Copa Del Rey and Champions League success last season and was also the highest goal getter in Europe in all competitions, with astounding 51 times. Dutch international Arjen Robben was the runner-up after he helped his German side, Bayern win 4 trophies last season and is further trailed by Messi, who endured a comparatively poor campaign.
Ronaldo was the joint winner of the European Golden shoe with Luis Suarez last term, having accrued 31 goals in the domestic league. And to compound the merit, Ronaldo was also the leading marksman in the Champions League, accomplishing a new milestone of 17 goals in the entire tournament.
On receiving the award, the former Manchester United star blithely stated, "It's a very big honour for me to have been chosen as the best player. I'm sincerely grateful. I'm convinced that I wouldn't have been able to win this award without the constant support from all people at Real Madrid."
