Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney revealed he hasn’t seen Sir Alex Ferguson since the Scot retired as the club’s manager, while also expressing his delight at finding a new lease of life under David Moyes
The 28-year-old fell out with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson last season and was set to leave during the summer.
Ferguson wrote in his autobiography that Rooney lost his ‘old thrust’ in the Scot’s final season at the helm because he was not fit.
“That’s the past, I’m looking to the future,” Rooney told Sky Sports after the 1-0 win over Real Sociedad.
Rooney has been impressive so far this season, earning acclaim as United’s stand-out performer, scoring three goals and assisting three more in the Premier League.
“I’m happy under the new manager,” he added.
“[Ferguson] has come back and corrected the story that I put a transfer request in, he’s gone back and proven that I didn’t.”
Rooney added: “I haven’t seen him since he retired.
“The new coach that has come in [and has given me] a new lease of life. I’m really enjoy working under David Moyes.”
Rooney’s quotes will no doubt bring a smile upon Moyes’ face after the pair have endured some sour times in the past. Moyes was the manager at Everton when Ferguson bought Rooney in 2004 and sued the striker after objecting to his account the deal in his book, Wayne Rooney – My Story So Far.
Rooney was forced to make an apology and pay damages to the Scot.
