Roy Keane slams Ashley Young for diving and calls him a disgrace to Manchester United

Ashley Young dive Roy Keane disgrace
Ashley Young escaped a booking for the dive against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has branded Ashley Young ‘absolute disgrace’ for his dive against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night in the Champions League, Manchester Evening News reported. Keane was angered by the United winger’s simulation and has questioned his credentials to play for the Old Trafford club.

The 30-year-old went down in the penalty box hoping to earn a cheeky penalty for his team when the scoreline remained goalless during the last quarter of the game. Young was challenged by CSKA defender Georgi Shchennikov, but the referee took no heed and signalled a goal kick. The former Aston Villa winger was also lucky not to be booked for the incident.

However, few minutes on from the penalty appeal, Young’ s teammate Wayne Rooney broke the deadlock with ten minutes left on the clock. The Red Devils earned a much-needed victory against the Russian side and are now sitting top of their Champions League group table.

Young’s somersault is an absolute disgrace: Keane

Ex-United skipper, Keane was described by Ferguson as a man with an ‘uncontrollable tongue’. And despite criticizing Young for his theatrical dive, Keane was also guilty of conning the referee to win a penalty against La Real. The Irishman has hit out at Young and has branded him ‘absolute disgrace’ for his latest antics and he has questioned his credentials a United player.

“If he’s a Manchester United player, I’m a Chinaman. It's absolutely disgraceful,” he said during the analysis of the game.

“The senior players need to get hold of him. That shouldn't be accepted at Manchester United. That's not leaving your leg in. That's different. It's the somersault he does, it's an absolute disgrace.”

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane now works as a pundit

“Maybe once or twice can be seen as a mistake. But he's done it nine or 10 times and he's done it at his previous clubs. They need to get hold of him and say, 'you don't behave like that playing for Man United'.”

Keane’s ex-teammate Paul Scholes also expressed his anger towards the United winger, labelling him an “embarrassment” and the former United midfielder has requested his fellow Englishman to get rid of this habit of diving.

This has not been the first time Young has made a deliberate attempt to draw a foul and he has been called out for his diving in the recent past. Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson fined the England international and dropped him for diving against Aston Villa in 2012. Another instance dates back to last season when Young was booked for diving under Louis van Gaal at Sunderland.
