Al-Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly weighing up his options amid uncertain future in Saudi Arabia. The 39-year-old's contract with the Riyadh outfit is set to expire this summer with no talks of an extension yet.
The former Real Madrid star hasn't issued any word on retirement yet but according to TEAMTalk, it's one of the three options on his mind. But there's a caveat.
Ronaldo could only choose to hang up his boots if he's able to guide Al-Nassr to the AFC Champions League title, something they've never won before. The Knights of Najd splashed an exorbitant amount on him mainly to guide them to the Asian crown but they've fallen short in both years with the Portuguese ace so far.
Regardless, an extension is still on the cards, if both parties want to continue the association. Ronaldo, who turns 40 next month, is hungry to collect more trophies and may do so by staying put in the Saudi capital for some more time.
TEAMtalk further reports that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner intends to retire after guiding Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico. But if he succeeds at helping Al-Nassr win the Champions League, Ronaldo may consider retiring in that case.
Another option teased in the report is the star returning to his native Portugal, where his career began. He came through the ranks at Sporting CP before breaking into their senior team in 2002. But there's been no talk of a reunion with the Lions just yet.
Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down
Just a month from now, Cristiano Ronaldo is all set to ring in his 40th birthday. Most players would've been long retired at this point, but he isn't like most players, is he?
The Portuguese ace remains hungry for glory, and that pursuit has seen him net another 16 goals from 19 games in all competitions so far this season. He may not match his feat of 50 from last season but continues to ripple the net left, right and centre.
Al-Nassr have struggled in the Saudi Pro League this season and are languishing in fourth place with 25 points from 13 games, a massive 11 behind leaders Al-Ittihad. But with 21 more games to go, and Ronaldo in top form, there's still hope for them.
