Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is reportedly attracting interest from Italian giants AC Milan, who could make a move for him in January. Lindelof has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, with the likes of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez getting the nod in the first team.
Most of his game time over the past two seasons has come in cup matches or in the absence of Martinez or Varane. The 29-year-old defender's deal with Manchester United is set to expire next summer, although the Red Devils reportedly have an option to extend his contract by a further year.
In the case of Manchester United triggering the extension clause in Lindelof's contract, they could possibly recoup a decent transfer fee in January. According to MilanWeb (via Sport Witness), Serie A giants AC Milan are thinking of making a €15 million offer for the former Benfica defender.
The Rossoneri have identified Lindelof as a potential replacement for Simon Kjaer, who is being tipped to leave the club this summer. The 34-year-old defender's contract with AC Milan will expire come the end of the 2023-24 season.
The Sweden international has made a combined total of 10 appearances for Manchester United this season. Lindelof was also reported to have had a dressing-room bust-up with teammate Martinez earlier this season as reported via [The Sun].
Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United will bounce back from a shaky start to the season
Manchester United haven't started the 2023/24 season well enough. The Red Devils are currently 10th in the Premier League and have lost six games this season across all competitions.
Despite what has been a very sluggish start to the season, manager Erik ten Hag is still very much optimistic that his team can turn things around. Speaking after their home UEFA Champions League defeat against Galatasary, he said (via Manchester Evening News):
"Last season: brilliant, terrific, more than we could expect but also when we went into this project we knew there would be common gaps and in this moment we are in a very difficult period, as everyone can see.
"We come out together, we are fighting together, we are sticking together, behind each other, it's me, the directors, the team, all together, we will fight and this is not us. We know we have to do better and in togetherness we will come out."
Next up for Manchester United after the international break will be games against Sheffield United, FC Copenhagen and arch-rivals City.
