Chelsea and Arsenal suffer massive blow for January

Arsenal and Chelsea have reportedly suffered a transfer blow as Alexander Isak has decided to stay at Newcastle United until the end of the season. The striker is said to be uninterested in moving to the London clubs in January and is keen on helping the Magpies finish the season on a high.

As per a report in The Sun, Isak is desperate to play in the UEFA Champions League but is keeping his options open until the end of the season. He is keen on getting more goals under his belt this season after netting 11 in 16 league matches so far.

Isak also spoke about his future earlier this season. He stressed that he was not concerned about the rumors and said:

"Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season. There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me. I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else."

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly looking to sign a striker in the January window and see Isak as an ideal target.

Chelsea were urged not to sign Arsenal target Isak by former player

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy, on talkSPORT earlier this season, stated he was happy that his former club did not sign Alexander Isak. He said his potential fee and wages were too high, similar to Victor Osimhen. He opined:

“The problem you have with Isak is the wages and the fee, that then leaves you with a problem on the Saturday of who do you start? Jackson has been allowed to develop in a team that’s still in its infancy with unprecedented change on and off the pitch, he’s coming through and showing the quality, so you’d have to disappoint either Jackson or Isak. I’m glad we didn’t go for Victor Osimhen in the summer because we wouldn’t be seeing these numbers from Jackson.
“We’re at a point now where it’s about improving the team, not the squad, and if you do that it’s a bit of a risk because Jackson’s doing well. There is a case to be made over whether we need a back-up as Christopher Nkunku isn’t that back-up, but because Jackson is so young, how do you back him up? You’d need someone who’s going to go over him, but who is that player?”

Arsenal and Chelsea are currently battling for a spot in the top four of the Premier League this season.
