Premier League giants Arsenal are close to reaching an agreement with Real Sociedad midfielder and Barcelona target Martin Zubimendi.
According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, the Gunners are interested in signing the 24-year-old midfield pivot Zubimendi this summer. The Gunners lack options in that position and could do with a player like Zubimendi. It has been reported that the Gunners have been in contact with Zubimendi’s agents and are now close to striking a deal with the midfielder.
Furthermore, it has been reported that Barcelona, who have long been linked with Zubimendi, have backed out of a move due to their complicated economic situation.
Renowned Spanish journalist Gerard Romero has said that the Blaugrana have now set their sights on Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
“A new pivot is a priority for Barça in summer, given Busquets' possible departure,” said Romero (via BarcaTimes). Amrabat is the FIRST and most AFFORDABLE option. Xavi loves Zubimendi, but his signing is out of the club's reach.”
Apart from Zubimendi, Arsenal have been linked with a move for West Ham United’s Declan Rice (via Sky Sports). However, Arsenal might hesitate to meet West Ham United’s astronomical £120 million valuation for the Englishman.
Zubimendi, who's valued at £34.80 million by Transfermarkt, could prove to be a more economical option.
Arsenal target Ferran Torres does not want to leave Barcelona
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Ferran Torres is one of the players Barcelona want to sell this summer to generate funds and comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
It's believed that Premier League sides Arsenal and Aston Villa are interested in the winger’s services (via talkSPORT).
However, it has been reported that the player does not want to leave the Camp Nou this summer. The winger's contract expires in 2027, and despite not playing regularly under Xavi, he remains eager to prove his mettle at Barcelona.
The Spaniard wishes to have a proper pre-season this summer and try to get more minutes next season. The former Manchester City forward has scored four times in 29 La Liga appearances this season, starting 13.
