Arsenal have set their sights on Palmeiras youngster Luighi, according to SPORT (via TBR Football). The Brazilian forward reportedly has a £66m release clause in his contract.

The Gunners are in the market for a new No. 9 after missing out on Benjamin Sesko this summer. The north London side wanted an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus, who has struggled to impress of late.

Sesko was identified as the ideal candidate for the job, but snubbed a move to the Emirates to sign a new deal with RB Leipzig. While Arsenal are expected to return for him in 2025, it appears that they are keeping their options open.

The Gunners finished last campaign in second place in the Premier League, two points behind champions Manchester City. This season, however, they are in a three-horse race with City and Liverpool for the title. Fourth-placed Aston Villa, meanwhile, are also in the mix.

The situation highlights a very thin margin for error in the Premier League at the moment, which is why the north London side are keen to upgrade their options. Luighi has been phenomenal for Palmeiras' under-20 side this season, registering nine goals from 19 games.

He has already broken into the senior team and is now wanted at the Emirates. Arsenal are already considering a move at the turn of the year, but will face competition from multiple clubs for the 18-year-old.

Should Arsenal invest in a more experienced striker in 2025?

Arsenal have invested heavily in youth in recent transfer windows under Mikel Arteta. The Spanish manager now has an enviable ensemble at his disposal, and Luighi could fit right in with the Gunners.

However, the north London side would be better advised to invest in players who can hit the ground running at the Emirates. While there is no denying the Brazilian's quality, there's no guarantee that he can be an instant success with Arsenal.

Luighi will need time to acclimatize to his new surroundings. He will only turn 19 in April next year, and might be too young to be burdened with the goalscoring responsibilities for a major team.

Instead, the Gunners should put all their efforts into prising Benjamin Sesko away from the Red Bull Arena. The 21-year-old has six goals and three assists from 12 games across competitions already this season. It is believed that he has a gentleman's agreement with RB Leipzig, who will allow him to leave for a fair fee next summer.
