Arsenal are interested in roping in Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, who has been identified as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah by Liverpool of late.
Mbeumo, 25, has emerged as one of the most in-form stars in the Premier League this season. He has found the back of the opposition net eight times in nine league games, featuring in 810 minutes of action.
However, the 18-cap Cameroon international was close to leaving Brentford earlier this summer. He asserted that he is keen to ply his trade at a top club to play in the top competitions, saying (h/t Chronicle Live):
"I have spent five seasons at Brentford, at a club that has helped me grow and turn a corner. But yes, I want to play in the biggest competitions, at the best clubs. It's still exciting to see some of the big teams interested in me. We'll see."
Now, according to The Telegraph, Mbeumo has attracted attention from Newcastle United in the recent times with the Magpies hoping to launch a move next January. Eddie Howe's side are likely to face competition from both Liverpool and Arsenal in the winter transfer window.
Should Mbeumo join Liverpool and Salah depart next summer, he could pop up as a crucial first-team starter for the Reds. On the other hand, he could prove to be an excellent backup to Bukayo Saka at Arsenal.
Mbeumo, who is allegedly valued at £50 million, has made 210 appearances in all competitions for Brentford. He has bagged 58 goals and contributed 42 assists for the west London outfit since arriving in 2019.
Pundit urges Liverpool to rope in new left-back after Reds star's poor display against Arsenal
Following Liverpool's 2-2 league draw at Arsenal, ex-Reds winger urged his former club to replace Andrew Robertson in the upcoming winter transfer window. He told Casino Apps (h/t Metro):
"Liverpool 100% need to consider a new left-back in January to replace Robertson. I was saying it during the game against Arsenal – Robertson has been an absolutely fantastic servant for the club over the years, but he definitely got found out against Bukayo Saka. Yes, you don't come up against that calibre of opposition every week, but you could see he was having a tough afternoon."
Robertson, who will turn 31 in 2025, completed 16 of his 22 passes and won three of his six overall duels in Sunday's league encounter.
So far this season, the Scotland captain has yet to contribute a goal or an assist in 12 appearances across all competitions for the Reds.
