Arsenal keen on possible move for 23-year-old Germany international: Reports

Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta's side are keen to sign a wide operator in the future.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in snapping up VfB Stuttgart star Jamie Leweling after the forward recently impressed on his Germany debut.

Leweling, 23, recently received his first international call-up after his steady rise to prominence at club level. He started Germany's 1-0 UEFA Nations League triumph over Netherlands earlier this Monday, bagging the decisive goal in the 64th minute of the Group C game.

According to The Boot Room, Arsenal's scouts were in Munich on Monday to keep close tabs on Leweling's display against Netherlands. They have already attended a number of club matches to watch the star.

Leweling, who is a Greuther Furth youth product, turned heads with his outings for Stuttgart last season. He helped them finish second in the Bundesliga, contributing goals and seven assists in 34 league games.

So far this season, the right-footed wide operator has established himself as a key starter for Stuttgart. He has started nine of his 10 total appearances, scoring once and registering two assists in the process.

Should Leweling join the north London club in the near future, he could prove to be a clever signing. He would help Gunners boss Mikel Arteta manage Bukayo Saka's minutes over the course of a single season.

Arsenal urged to win silverware this term

During a chat with football.london, ex-Gunners star Emmanuel Petit was queried if his former club can lift a major trophy at the end of the ongoing season. He replied (h/t Tribal Football):

"I hope that will happen this season because they have to win something to keep the confidence of the players and the vision of the club. It's important if you want to keep the same ambitions, if you want the players to follow you every single game, you need to win something at the end of the season."

Petit, who played for the north London side 118 times, concluded:

"If you asked this question to [Mikel] Arteta, he would tell you the same answer. Football, what is it? It's winning games, winning titles. And at the moment, after two, three, three years of amazing work, you need to win something. If I am a player at Arsenal and I've been playing for years over there and I saw the improvements of the team, as well individually, but at the end we never win anything..."

Arsenal, who are third with 17 points from seven games this season, achieved two back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League in the last two seasons. They ended last season on a good 89 points, while they finished the 2022-23 term on 84 points from 38 games.

Mikel Arteta's outfit will next be in action in their Premier League encounter against Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium this Saturday (October 19).
