Arsenal and Liverpool will reportedly face tough competition from Newcastle United for the potential signature of Mohammed Kudus. West Ham United have slapped a £90 million fee on the Ghana international.
Kudus has been excellent since joining West Ham from Ajax for a reported fee of £38 million in August 2023. He has scored 16 goals and provided eight assists in 57 games across competitions. He is also versatile, having played on the right wing and in the attacking midfield role.
As per Mirror, Kudus has garnered attention from many clubs, namely Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United. The Gunners are looking to reinforce their attack after their dependence on set pieces. They have failed to score an open-play goal in their last three Premier League games now.
Liverpool, meanwhile, could potentially look for a Mohamed Salah replacement with the Egyptian winger's contract ending in the summer. Newcastle are also looking for an attacker on the right side. The likes of Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy have failed to make a big impact and could even be sold.
However, the Magpies will have to break their transfer record if they want to sign Kudus. His contract has a release clause worth £85 million in the summer but could cost around £90 million in January. Newcastle's current record signing is Alexander Isak, who they signed for £63 million from Real Sociedad in 2022.
Newcastle boss provides January window update amidst links with Arsenal and Liverpool target
As per Mirror, Newcastle have been monitoring Mohammed Kudus since his time at Nordsjaelland. They are again keen to sign him in January, with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool also interested. However, the Magpies will have to sell to be able to afford Kudus amidst their Profit and Sustainability Rules concerns.
"I keep saying the same thing about January, I wouldn't expect us to be in a position to be too active in the market," Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on their potential January transfers. "As we currently stand up, things can change. You know, if we trade players, of course that's different. But if we don't trade players, I would expect us to be quiet."
Newcastle had to sell two players in the summer to comply with PSR Rules. They sold Yankuba Minteh to Brighton & Hove Albion for £30 million and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £35 million.
