Martin Zubimendi could reportedly prefer a move to Real Madrid if Xabi Alonso becomes their new manager amidst interest from Liverpool and Arsenal. The Spaniard has a similar football philosophy as Alonso and it could play a role in his future.
Zubimendi was linked with a move away from Real Sociedad in the summer, with Liverpool eager to sign him. The Reds had also reached an agreement with the Spanish club but the midfielder eventually rejected the move. The links have persisted, though, with Arsenal and Real Madrid also joining the race for his signature.
There are plenty of uncertainties around Los Blancos at this time, including manager Carlo Ancelotti. He has been linked with a move away amidst their turbulent form. Former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has been touted to take over if Ancelotti leaves next summer.
As per Fichajes.net (via Madrid Universal), if the Spaniard does become the new coach of the Merengues, Zubimendi will prefer to join them as well. With Luka Modric's potential retirement and doubts over Aurelien Tchouameni, Los Blancos are keen on signing the Real Sociedad midfielder.
Zubimendi has also worked with Alonso in the past when the latter was the head coach of Real Sociedad B. Hence, he would prefer joining him rather than moving to Liverpool or Arsenal. The Spaniard has made over 200 senior appearances for Real Sociedad, contributing nine goals and nine assists.
Liverpool star offers support to compatriot Kylian Mbappe amidst turbulent start at Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappe joined Real Madrid on a free transfer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the expiration of his contract in the summer. While he's recorded eight goals and two assists in 16 games across competitions this season, his performances have been heavily criticized.
Mbappe's struggles also saw him being left out of France's squads for their UEFA Nations League fixtures in October and November. Liverpool and Les Bleus defender Ibrahima Konate has offered support to his national side's captain, saying (via Mirror):
“Beyond being a footballer, he is one of my friends, someone that I have a lot of affection for. If Kylian has psychological problems in his life, we’ll always be there to help him.
"But we know the qualities that Kylian has; he is a formidable player and one of the best in the world. Every player in their career has had a little blip so I’m not worried about him. I can’t wait for him to get back to his best level.”
While they couldn't share the pitch in France's colors this month, Konate and Mbappe will soon face off at the club level. Liverpool will host Real Madrid at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League league stage on November 27.
