Arsenal have reportedly identified Alexander Isak as their dream target as they look to strengthen their attack. They are keen on signing the Newcastle United striker in January or next summer.
The Gunners have been linked with a number of strikers since the start of last season. However, they didn't sign any striker in the summer, bringing in winger Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea instead. They also sold Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace.
Their main striker Kai Havertz has scored four goals in the Premier League this season while Gabriel Jesus has yet to open his account. Hence, the need for a striker continues for Arsenal. As per TEAMTalk, manager Mikel Arteta is keen on signing a top-quality striker who can help them win the Premier League title.
They have identified Isak as a potential dream signing. The 23-year-old has been brilliant for Newcastle since arriving from Real Sociedad in 2022. He's scored 39 goals and provided six assists in 77 games for the club. His contract with the Magpies runs until 2028.
As per the aforementioned report, Newcastle are trying to tie him down to a new longer contract as he is a crucial player for them. However, Isak would consider his options as he wants to join a club that consistently competes for trophies and plays in the UEFA Champions League.
If he doesn't sign a new contract, Newcastle might be tempted to sell him and would demand around £100 million amidst plenty of interest.
Alexander Isak helped Newcastle to a big win over Arsenal at the weekend
Arsenal have had a stumble in recent weeks in their pursuit of the Premier League title. They first lost 2-0 against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium before drawing 2-2 against Liverpool at the Emirates. They traveled to St. James' Park on Saturday, November 2, to face Newcastle, who were without a win in their last five league games.
However, the hosts were excellent on the day and Alexander Isak gave them the lead in the 12th minute with a brilliant assist from Anthony Gordon. Both sides created multiple chances in the game but failed to capitalize on them. While the Gunners had 1/10 attempts on target, Newcastle had 4/9 on target.
It ended in a brilliant 1-0 win for the Magpies, who moved to 10th place in the Premier League table with 15 points. Arsenal, meanwhile, are fifth with 18 points and sit seven points behind leaders Liverpool.
