Arsenal have allegedly enquired about Liverpool target and Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori's availability ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
Over the last couple of weeks, Calafiori has emerged as the talk of the town owing to his stellar displays at the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024. The 22-year-old helped Italy advance to the last-16 stage, where his national side recently crashed to a 2-0 loss against Switzerland.
Now, Romano has stated that Arsenal have made an enquiry to gather information on the AS Roma academy graduate's situation at Bologna. He told GiveMeSport:
"For Calafiori, Arsenal made an enquiry to understand the situation of the player. I mean, it's also normal when you are looking for a left-footed player, a left-foot defender. Riccardo Calafiori is one of the best available now on the market."
Offering more insight into the Gunners' approach, Romano concluded:
"So Arsenal have been showing their interest in the situation. But at the moment, it's not a negotiation. There is no bid, there is no contact with Bologna, so it's just an enquiry to understand the situation of Calafiori."
Meanwhile, according to Italian outlet Corriere di Bologna, Liverpool are hoping to rope in Calafiori and are preparing a substantial bid. However, they are set to face competition from Real Madrid and Juventus in the race for the centre-back, who is valued at £34 million.
Should the left-footed defender snub Liverpool to join Mikel Arteta's side, he could prove to be a clever signing. He would offer competition to Gabriel Magalhaes and also play as a left-back if and when required.
Since arriving from Basel for over £3 million, Calafiori has registered two goals and five assists in 33 overall appearances for Bologna.
Arsenal attacker believes Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold could become manager
During a recent interaction on Lions' Den Unlocked, Arsenal attacker Bukayo Saka was asked to name the England teammate who could become a manager later on. He replied (h/t HITC):
"Do you know who comes to mind? Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. I think he could be a gaffer. He loves the game. I could see it potentially."
Alexander-Arnold, who has started two of his three appearances for England at the Euro 2024, has cemented himself as a key starter for Liverpool since his debut. He has helped them lift eight trophies so far, registering 19 goals and 81 assists in 310 overall appearances.
Both Alexander-Arnold and Saka will next be in action in England's last-16 contest against Slovakia at the Euro 2024 this Sunday (June 30).
