Arsenal are reportedly plotting a move for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane after failing to sign top target Nico Williams this summer. This is as per Football Transfers, who believe that the Bavarian side would be open to negotiations if an offer of over £40 million came their way.
However, new Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has maintained that he would like to keep hold of Sane. Despite that, it is claimed that the German side are trying to raise funds by selling a wide player after already having spent €145 million this summer.
Additionally, Sane only has a year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena. If Bayern Munich choose not to renew his deal, they would risk losing the player for free in 2025.
The former Manchester City star predominantly operates on the right flank but can also play on the opposite wing. With the Gunners, it is unlikely that he will get picked ahead of Bukayo Saka for a wide spot on the right.
However, the position down the left flank remains up for grabs, with the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard competing for minutes in that role.
Sane also boasts of experience in the Premier League, having previously enjoyed a four-year spell at Manchester City from 2016 to 2020. During his time at the Etihad Stadium, the 28-year-old attacker made 135 appearances across competitions, bagging 39 goals and 43 assists.
The Germany international would also earn himself the chance to compete for the Premier League and Champions League next season with Arsenal.
Barcelona ahead in the race to sign Arsenal and Chelsea target - Reports
Arsenal and Chelsea will reportedly find it complicated to get a deal over the line for Athletic Club winger Nico Williams this summer. According to The Athletic, it is the Spain international's hefty €58m release clause that these clubs may struggle to meet up front (via CaughtOffSide).
As a result, Barcelona are seemingly ahead to sign the player if they manage to get their finances in place. Williams is considered a top young talent in La Liga and also contributed with two goals and an assist as La Roja lifted the Euro 2024 trophy in Germany.
Last season, Williams made 37 appearances across competitions, bagging eight goals and 19 assists. The winger is contracted with his current club till the summer of 2027.
