Arsenal are reportedly planning to sign goalkeeper Daniel Bentley from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers as they look to strengthen the squad between the sticks. The Gunners currently have two goalkeepers in the first team: Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya.
Raya joined the club on loan from Brentford last summer and established himself as the first-choice. His loan move has been made permanent in the ongoing transfer window. Ramsdale, who was relegated to the bench after the Spaniard's arrival, is reportedly unhappy with his lack of playing time.
According to Alan Nixon (via GiveMeSport), the Gunners are plotting a move for Daniel Bentley. Last season, the 30-year-old goalkeeper made five Premier League appearances, which means he has already had a taste of top-tier English football.
The Gunners are also concerned that Aaron Ramsdale could leave the club, as recent reports have claimed. If a move away from the Emirates doesn't materialize for Ramsdale, Bentley might have to settle for a third-choice position in Arsenal's squad.
24-year-old full-back talks about interest in staying at Arsenal amidst exit rumors
Portuguese full-back Nuno Tavares recently stated he wants to have a good pre-season with Arsenal ahead of the 2024-25 campaign and fight for his place at the club. Tavares has been linked with a move away from the Gunners and his contract with the side is set to expire next summer.
The 24-year-old left-back spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he made just eight Premier League appearances. He addressed his future with the Gunners, telling Portuguese media outlet Record (via One Football):
"Yes, obviously, I have in mind to return to Arsenal and have a good pre-season. Regardless of what happens in the future, I will always do my best, as I have done in all pre-seasons, to have a place at the club. I always try to do my work in the best way. Then it’s up to the club to decide whether I’m a valid option or not."
"But I have a strong mentality. I know what I’m capable of. Sometimes things don’t depend on us, but my job is to focus on myself and do what I do best."
Tavares has struggled for game-time at the Emirates, with manager Mikel Arteta opting to use converted centre-backs at the position more often than natural full-backs. It'll be interesting to see where Tavares ends up at the beginning of the 2024-25 season.
