The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have reportedly fined Al-Nassr's Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently representing Portugal at the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024.
Ronaldo, 39, has helped Portugal qualify for the Euro 2024 last-16 stage with one assist to his name in three outings so far. He started all three of his national team's Group F outings, guiding them to two wins.
Meanwhile, according to a report from X account @MnbrIl, the Portuguese is set to pay AFC a fine of $15,000 for wearing a third-party trademark. The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid ace breached the rule during a press conference ahead of Al-Nassr's AFC Champions League quarter-final tie against UAE Pro League outfit Al-Ain.
The AFC have also issued a warning to the five-time Ballon d'or award winner that repeating the violation will lead to a more severe penalty.
Last campaign, Ronaldo was in excellent form for Al-Nassr but failed to guide them to the 2023-24 Saudi Pro League title. He registered 35 goals and 11 assists in 31 league outings, while bagging six goals and recording one assist in six Champions League appearances.
Gary Lineker opines on Cristiano Ronaldo's 'angry' outbursts in latest Euro 2024 defeat
Earlier on Wednesday (June 26), Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal failed to end their Euro 2024 group-stage on a positive note. They slumped to a 2-0 Group F loss as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mikautadze scored a goal each on either side of the half-time break.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, England great Gary Lineker offered his thoughts on Ronaldo's attitude during the match. He said:
"The whole game he was angry. He was angry at the referee, angry at his teammates for not getting him the ball properly. When he went off, he kicked something in disgust. He must be quite tough to manage."
Opining on the Portuguese striker's substitution, Lineker concluded:
"It was right to take him off, he was on a yellow card as well. It would've been mad if he got himself another booking, which would've meant a red [card] in that game and then missed the next one. I still think his movement is sharp. He's brilliant the way he moves, little dashes [of pace]. Obviously, he's not going to chase anyone down at this age."
The 39-year-old striker is yet to net a goal in three Euro 2024 games.
Portugal, on the other hand, will next face Slovenia in their Euro 2024 last-16 clash at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt on Monday (July 1).
