La Liga club Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal worth up to €95 million for Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez, according to transfer expert David Ornstein. The Argentine is expected to make the switch this summer with personal terms yet to be finalized.
The Cityzens signed Julian Alvarez from River Plate in January 2022 for €17 million. The 24-year-old flourished over the next two seasons under Pep Guardiola's tutelage, garnering 36 goals and 18 assists in 103 appearances across all competitions. He also helped Manchester City win six trophies, including two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
The Argentine even extended his contract last March with Manchester City until 2028. Despite this, many reports suggested that Alvarez was unhappy playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland. It now appears he will get an opportunity to shine for Atletico Madrid next season as the two clubs have agreed a deal worth up to €95 million (€75m + €20m in add-ons).
This would be a record sale for City but also a massive blow to lose a player of Julian Alvarez's caliber after just two-and-a-half years. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have already signed Robin Le Normand and Alexander Sorloth this summer and have been linked with Chelsea's Conor Gallagher as well.
Manchester City attacker set to leave the club after Julian Alvarez after interest from Championship club: Reports
Manchester City have been dealt a huge blow after David Ornstein reported that Julian Alvarez is likely to switch to Atletico Madrid this summer. However, they could also lose talented youngster Micah Hamilton this summer, with Championship outfit Middlesbrough showing great interest in signing him, as per The Athletic.
Hamilton has plied his trade as an attacking midfielder and winger for the Cityzens since 2013, coming up through the academy. He made his senior debut for City last season, notably scoring one goal and providing one assist in two UEFA Champions League appearances.
The 20-year-old has been hailed in the past for his versatility and speed and is capable of playing on both sides of the wing. As per the aforementioned report, Middlesbrough are now in advanced talks with Manchester City to sign Hamilton on a permanent deal.
Positive discussions have reportedly taken place between both sides and personal terms will not be an issue for this transfer. The Cityzens have already sold some other academy stars this summer, including Sergio Gomez to Real Sociedad and Liam Delap to Ipswich Town.
