Barcelona have reportedly identified Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram as a potential replacement for the ageing Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is now 36 years old and is only contracted with La Blaugrana until the summer of 2026.
Therefore, it isn't surprising that the Catalan club are looking for long-term replacements for the former Bayern Munich star. According to Mundo Deportivo (via GOAL), Barcelona, along with several other European sides, are chasing the Frenchman's signature.
The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Tottenham Hotspur, among others, are all keeping tabs on the 27-year-old forward. So far this season, Thuram has made 20 appearances across competitions for the Serie A side, bagging 12 goals and six assists.
Inter will be in no rush to sell Thuram, with the player contracted at the San Siro until the summer of 2028. However, he may be tempted by a move to Barcelona, widely regarded as one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Moreover, La Blaugrana have started the 2024/25 season well under new coach Hansi Flick. At the moment, they are leading the La Liga standings but are level on points with second-placed Atletico Madrid, who have a game in hand.
Along with the chance to compete for top honors, Thuram will also be guaranteed minutes if Lewandowski is to move on in the near future. The Catalans could look to sell the ex-Borussia Dortmund man in 2025 to secure a transfer fee. In 23 matches across competitions this season, Lewandowski has bagged 23 goals and two assists.
