Barcelona will reportedly face competition for Atletico Madrid for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. The two clubs are open to spending around €65 million for the England international.
Rashford has had a tough time at his boyhood club since the start of last season. He scored eight goals and provided five assists in 43 games across competitions last season. He's scored seven goals and provided three assists in 24 games this season.
Fans and pundits have heavily criticized Rashford's output and his general performances. New manager Ruben Amorim has also left the forward out of the squad for Manchester United's three previous games. Hence, he has been heavily linked with a move away in 2025.
As per Fichajes.net (via The Hard Tackle), Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are highly interested in signing the Englishman. His contract with Manchester United expires in 2028 and both Spanish giants are willing to spend €65 million to sign him.
Rashford himself recently suggested that a move could be on the cards in January itself, saying:
“Personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps."
Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are involved in a LaLiga title race and Rashford's signing could be a huge boost for either side. Atletico currently lead the table, sitting three points above third-placed Barca with a game in hand.
Barcelona star sends out message after Atletico Madrid defeat
Barcelona suffered their second defeat in a row as they lost 2-1 against Atletico Madrid at home in LaLiga on Saturday, December 21. They had lost 1-0 against Leganes in their previous match.
Pedri opened the scoring in the 30th minute but Atletico made a comeback through Rodrigo De Paul (60') and Alexander Sorloth (90+6'). The defeats marked Barca's fourth in their last seven league games with two draws and just one win.
After the game, Pedri sent out a message on social media, writing:
"We have to turn this anger into fuel. Come back with our batteries charged and with the sole purpose of improving, competing at our best level again and finishing the season on a high note.
"Enjoy your family these days, as we will. It will be good for all of us. Happy Holidays and Força Barça!"
LaLiga will now halt for the winter break. Barcelona will return to action on January 4 when they face Barbastro away in the Copa del Rey Round of 32.
