According to Journalist Matteo Moretto, Barcelona have opened negotiations with Jorthy Mokio for a potential summer move. The youngster has drawn interest from clubs in England and the Eredivisie as well.

The Milan-based Relevo journalist believes that the Catalans have made a new contract offer and a definitive answer will be expected next week. The player's decision remains a mystery, with other suitors reportedly offering a better financial package.

Cash-strapped Blaugrana have been saved by their youth in recent years as they were when Dutch legend Johan Cruyff revitalised La Masia. The teenage sensation could offer another high potential option for the Catalan club to benefit from moving forward.

The Spanish giants will face competition for the highly-rated youngster’s signature, with clubs across the continent also observing his situation. Premier League clubs, with their immense wealth and Dutch sides, also famed for their youth development, could scupper the Catalan plan to sign Mokio.

Barcelona will, however, believe that they still maintain the sway that they once had. The club will hope they their development of young starlets like Pau Cubrasi and Lamine Yamal will prove enough of a draw for Mokio despite offers from elsewhere.

Barcelona and the Catalan legacy of youth development

Barcelona have a rich history of youth development, helping some of the most talented youngsters in the world achieve superstardom. The La Masia academy has produced some of the most talented and technically gifted stats the game has seen.

Stars like Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol, and Cesc Fabregas formed the core of one of the greatest teams of all time. All these players came through the Catalan youth system.

Barcelona have maintained their culture of producing high-quality players from their academy. Players like Pau Cubrasi and Lamine Yamal have been nurtured at their facility and look to have bright futures in the game. It remains to be seen what the La Masia academy will produce next, but fans of the sport will eagerly watch.
