Barcelona manager Hansi Flick could exile Frenkie de Jong from his squad if the Dutch midfielder fails to leave the club or sign a contract extension, as per SPORT. Blaugrana are reportedly keen on offloading De Jong due to their financial struggles.

Barcelona have endured a tough January transfer window due to their financial woes as they seek to bolster their squad to challenge for silverware this season. According to SPORTbible, they have received permission to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, despite missing the original deadline at the end of last month.

However, Blaugrana will reportedly need to sell several players during the current transfer window. A few names reported to be on the chopping block include Ronaldo Araujo and Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong joined Barcelona in 2019 and is contracted to the club until the summer of 2026. The 27-year-old is currently earning a reported salary of €365,385 per week - a figure which is likely affecting Barca's finances. The club have allegedly attempted to negotiate a contract renewal to no avail with the Dutch international reportedly determined to see out his contract.

However, with the likes of Marc Casado and Pedri ahead of him in the pecking order, Flick and company may resort to exiling De Jong altogether from the squad if they fail to offload him. He has made 15 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring one goal and assist each.

"We want to win the first title of 2025" - Real Madrid star Rodrygo sends warning to Barcelona following Mallorca win

Real Madrid winger Rodrygo reckons his side are prepared to face Barcelona in their upcoming Supercopa de Espana showdown in the final. The two sides are set to face each other at the King Abdullah Sports City on Sunday, January 12.

Blaugrana dispatched Athletic Club 2-0 earlier this week in the semi-final. Meanwhile, Real Madrid defeated Mallorca 3-0 to book their spot in the final via goals from Jude Bellingham, a Martin Valjent own goal, and Rodrygo.

Following their win on his 24th birthday, the latter said (via beIN Sports):

"It will be a difficult match, as always against Barcelona, but we are prepared. We are in good form, and we want to win the first title of 2025."

Real Madrid will be aiming to win their third trophy of the season having already captured the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup. However, Flick and company defeated Los Blancos 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu the last time they faced each other in LaLiga in October.
