Barcelona are reportedly looking to sign AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as a replacement for Frenkie de Jong. The 27-year-old central midfielder is contracted with the Spanish outfit till the summer of 2026, which may suggest that he could be on his way out fairly soon.
It is Spanish outlet El Nacional, who say that De Jong's Netherlands teammate is of interest at Camp Nou. It further adds that Reijnders has been tracked by the club's sporting director Deco, who wishes to bring the 26-year-old to Catalunya before the start of next season.
It looks likely that De Jong will see the exit doors at Barcelona in 2025, as the club wouldn't want to lose him for free in the summer of 2026. To date, the former Ajax midfielder has made 220 appearances across competitions for his current employers, bagging 17 goals and 21 assists.
While Reijnders has become an exciting talent around Europe, this report clarifies that a move for the central midfielder will not be simple. He's a valued asset in Milan and is contracted at the San Siro till the summer of 2028.
The player is fairly versatile as well, possesing the ability to occupy a box-to-box position or play as an attacking midfielder, based on the requirements of the team. He's played 64 games across competitions for AC Milan until this point, bagging eight goals and seven assists.
A move to Barcelona is certainly going to be tempting as it would give Reijnders the chance to play for one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. The Blaugrana are also top of the LaLiga standings, and are performing well this campaign.
