Barcelona are reportedly prepared to let versatile defender Eric Garcia leave if they are able to register playmaker Dani Olmo and forward Pau Victor. The Blaugrana are struggling with staying in line with Financial Fair Play rules, as they have struggled to complete the registration of two players.
After signing Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig for €60 million in the summer, questions were raised about the club's financial ability to register him. However, a temporary solution was agreed on, which saw Olmo register and play for the Blaugrana. However, that solution has now expired, requiring the club to re-register Olmo and Victor.
There has been a lot of uncertainty around what could happen if Barcelona fail to complete these registrations on time. It is believed that Olmo and Victor could both end up as free agents, despite remaining on contract with Barca.
Barca are now willing to sanction Eric Garcia's sale if they are allowed to register their players, according to journalist Nil Sola (via Football Espana). The 23-year-old's former club Girona are believed to be interested in his return, and they will pay a transfer fee of approximately €10 million for him.
However, the condition for Garcia's sale to Girona is that Dani Olmo and Pau Victor's registrations are resolved. Barca manager Hansi Flick was asked if a potential sale for Garcia was in the works, but the German tactician responded in the negative, saying (via Football Espana):
“No, I don’t think so. For us, he is a good player. He had the problem that at the end of last season, he had an injury. He is an intelligent player, he can play in different positions, and we are not thinking about that.”
This season, the defender has struggled to find a spot in the starting berth. Despite racking up 13 appearances so far, he has started just one UEFA Champions League game and four La Liga games.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick shares disappointment amidst Dani Olmo registration case
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has shared his disappointment in the Dani Olmo and Pau Victor registration cases. The head coach met with the press ahead of Barca's match against Barbastro, where he was asked about the unprecedented situation.
The manager said (via Forbes):
"I don't want to talk about this. It's not my job. My job is to prepare the team for the next cup match. I have spoken with the president, I have confidence in the club as far as the team is concerned. Each one does his job and I have to do mine, to prepare the team well. To be honest, it's not a situation that makes me happy."
The focus for Hansi Flick is on their upcoming Copa del Rey Round-of-32 clash against Barbastro on January 4 - Barcelona's first game after the festive holiday break. After losing 2-1 to Atletico Madrid on December 21, the Blaugrana will look to turn things around and find winning momentum.
