Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is planning to offload Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia if they do not improve by the end of this season, according to Defensa Central (via Madrid Universal). The Italian manager opted for Eduardo Camavinga at left-back against Sevilla last weekend, despite Mendy and Garcia being fit.
It was apparently a stark reminder to the duo that their place in the squad is under threat. Los Blancos remain heavily linked with a move for Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.
The Canadian speedster is in the final year of his contract with the Bavarians and hasn't signed an extension yet. The LaLiga giants are reportedly planning to sign him on a Bosman move at the end of this season.
Ancelotti has preferred Mendy for the left-back spot in recent years, but the Frenchman hasn't been in his element this season. Mendy is yet to make a goal contribution from 17 games for Real Madrid this season.
Garcia, meanwhile, has appeared 19 times across competitions this season, without registering a goal or an assist.
As such, Real Madrid could consider offer for the duo unless they improve between now and the end of the campaign. Garcia is apparently part of the club's long-term plans, so Mendy could be under added pressure at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, should the Frenchman turn things around in the coming months, the Spaniard could face the axe.
Will Trent Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid in 2025?
Trent Alexander-Arnold's contract with Liverpool expires at the end of this season and he is yet to sign a new deal. Recent reports have suggested that Real Madrid want to sign him for free next summer.
Speaking recently, as cited by AS, Reds legend Jamie Redknapp advised Alexander-Arnold to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
“If you want to go to Manchester United or Manchester City, of course, for me that can’t be done. Liverpool is my club, I was there for 11 years,” said Redknapp.
He continued:
“But if I were in that locker room, I would turn around and say: ‘I would love for you to sign’, but you know what, good luck, because if there is a chance to go to Real Madrid, how can you reject it? He should take a risk and sign for Madrid.”
The 26-year-old has registered 19 goals and 85 assists from 331 games for Liverpool.
