Chelsea are reportedly among a number of clubs monitoring the situation of Nico Williams after missing out on Michael Olise. The Athletic Club winger is also on the radar of the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.
As per journalist David Ornstein, the Blues have withdrawn from the race to sign Olise due to his financial demands. He wanted to become the highest earner at the club, had he joined. They have now failed to sign him two years in a row and the Crystal Palace winger is edging closer to a move to Bayern Munich instead.
As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are now among a host of clubs monitoring Athletic Club winger Nico Williams. The Spanish winger has attracted plenty of interest due to his excellent performances last season. He scored eight goals and provided 14 assists in 37 games across competitions for Athletic Club, helping them win the Copa del Rey.
Williams has also impressed at the UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain, helping them win their first two games and qualify for the knockout rounds. His dribbling skills have shone in recent years and the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in signing him.
Williams' contract with Athletic Club has a release clause worth €58 million and it expires in 2027. He came through Bilbao's academy, like most of their players, and has contributed 20 goals and 26 assists in 122 senior games.
Michael Olise set to join Bayern Munich after snubbing Chelsea
Michael Olise was linked with a move to Chelsea last summer as well but decided to stay at Crystal Palace instead. He had an injury-plagued season but contributed 10 goals and six assists in 19 games.
His performances saw the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United interested in signing him this summer. However, the winger is now set to join Bayern Munich, as per Fabrizio Romano. Olise has already agreed on personal terms with Bayern. It's all up to the negotiations between the German giants and Crystal Palace, with the fee expected to be around £50 million.
Olise joined the Eagles from Reading in 2021 and has since scored 16 goals and provided 25 assists in 90 games for Palace. He is set to take part in the 2024 Olympics next month with France, under the management of Thierry Henry.
