According to journalist Kieran Gill, Chelsea are planning a move for Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen in January. The Danish custodian was also linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer before the Blues opted to sign Filip Jorgensen.
The 22-year-old joined the London giants from Villarreal in a reported £20.7m deal. However, he wasn't the only goalkeeper to arrive at Chelsea this summer, with the club also signing Mike Penders from Genk.
Enzo Maresca has used Robert Sanchez as his first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League, although the Spaniard has failed to inspire confidence. Sanchez has played every minute of every game in the league, conceding 13 goals in 11 matches, and registering two clean sheets.
Jorgensen, meanwhile, has been deployed between the sticks in the Conference League and the League Cup. The Danish international has registered three clean sheets in seven appearances, conceding seven goals.
However, the Blues believe they need an upgrade on the position and have set their sights on Hermansen. The 24-year-old has appeared 11 times in the league for Leicester City, conceding 21 goals and registering one clean sheet.
The Dane is under contract at the King Power Stadium until 2028, so prising him away may not be easy. However, Chelsea have shown they are willing to splash the cash on the right players in recent transfer windows. They could convince the Foxes to let Hermansen go in January with a proper offer.
Will Chelsea offload Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2025?
Mads Hermansen could end up being a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga at Chelsea. The Spanish goalkeeper is on loan at Bournemouth and isn't part of the Blues' plans.
Kepa initially joined the club from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2018 in a reported £71.6m move. He initially fared well before dropping down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
Last season, the 29-year-old was sent out on loan at Real Madrid, where he registered 20 appearances across competitions. He was keen to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Los Blancos opted against a permanent move after Andriy Lunin signed a new deal.
Kepa was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia over the summer. However, he extended his stay with Chelsea until 2026 before joining the Cherries on loan.
Kieran Gill has also stated that Kepa has a £5m release clause in his contract which will become active at the end of this season.
