Chelsea are reportedly planning a stunning swap deal involving Romeu Lukaku and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
As per El Nacional, Chelsea are working on getting incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino the players he wants to compete for trophies from next season. They are aware that the squad lacks a goal scorer and are ready to do everything possible to fill the void.
Kane has been identified as the top target, and they are ready to offer Lukaku in exchange. The Belgian is currently is on loan at Inter Milan and is not interested in continuing at Stamford Bridge. However, a permanent move to the Italian side is unlikely.
Kane, meanwhile, has scored 28 goals in 37 games this season in the league - a whopping 42% of Tottenham's goals. However, when compared with the Chelsea squad, Kane has scored just eight fewer than the entire team.
Lukaku joined Chelsea from Inter Milan for over £97 million in 2021 but scored just 15 goals in 44 appearances across competitions. He then joined Inter on loan last summer and is now set to play in the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City. He has contributed 12 goals and six assists in 32 games across competitions this season.
Former Chelsea players want Harry Kane signed
Former Blues defender William Gallas was talking to Genting Casino earlier this season and he urged Chelsea to sign Harry Kane. He believes that the squad needs a World Class striker and the Tottenham star is the best pick.
"What Chelsea need is a striker, a world-class one. I'm sure on the market there will be options. Harry Kane is one. I know it will be hard because unfortunately Chelsèa won't be in the Champions League, but he will have a better chance of winning the Premier League."
He added:
"If they are looking for a striker, Kane is perfect but I don't think Daniel Levy will sell to Chelsèa. He would put the price very high."
Florent Malouda was also of the same opinion when he was talking to DAZN Bet. He said:
"Chelsèa should definitely join the race for Harry Kane. Kane is a world-class player who knows the Premier League, and it is an era where Chelsèa need a striker with his goalscoring record and the ambition to win trophies. If Kane ever leaves Tottenham, it will be because of the lack of trophies."
He added:
"Kane would be a great signing, but I'd be surprised if he left Tottenham for Chelsèa because of the rivalry. It's not like leaving Tottenham for Arsenal, but to leave Tottenham for Chelsèa, I'd be surprised but anything is possible. He's a great option for any club in the Premier League, and for Chelsèa he'd be a great pick."
Pochettino has worked with Kane at Tottenham and the Blues are hoping that he can help lure the striker. He scored 169 goals and contributed 27 assists in 242 games under the Argentine manager, all for Spurs.
