Chelsea have been offered an opportunity to re-sign Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan in the ongoing transfer window, according to a report by CFCPys on X. However, this potential deal would depend on the possible sale of center-back Axel Disasi.
Tomori joined AC Milan from Chelsea for a reported €35.30 million in July 2021. Since joining Milan, the Englishman has proven to be an important defender, registering eight goal contributions in 157 appearances.
Tomori has registered 15 appearances across all competitions this season. In nine Serie A games, he has registered 16 clearances and won 25 out of 43 ground duels contested (via FootyStats).
Given his flexibility to feature in multiple defensive positions, Tomori could be a decent signing for the Blues in defense. He could also be used as a makeshift right-back, given Reece James' fitness concerns.
Tomori's experience could also solidify the defense amid their struggles in recent weeks. However, the report mentioned above claims that Juventus are interested in signing Tomori, while the Blues would also have to offload Disasi.
Disasi is contracted at Stamford Bridge until June 2029, meaning his possible sale could be difficult. While Tomori is contracted at AC Milan till June 2027.
How has Axel Disasi performed at Chelsea this season?
Disasi has proven to be a formidable defender for the Blues despite his recent error leading to a goal in the 2-0 league defeat to Ipswich. In 15 appearances across all competitions, he has scored two goals and registered two assists.
In five Premier League appearances, he has registered eight clearances and won six out of 18 ground duels contested. In the absence of Reece James, the Frenchman has been sometimes used as a makeshift right-back by Enzo Maresca.
However, despite his defensive improvements, the Frenchman has struggled to cement his stop in Enzo Maresca's starting XI. Amidst all the speculations regarding his future, he's in contention to feature for the Blues against Crystal Palace on (January 4).
The Blues are ranked fourth in the Premier League standings, having registered 35 points from 19 games. They are 10 points behind leaders Liverpool who have a game in hand in the title race.
