Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer three players plus a significant amount of cash to Serie A side Inter Milan in exchange for their striker Lautaro Martinez. The Blues made many signings in the summer and now have a large squad that includes players they consider surplus to requirements.
Enzo Maresca's men have punched above their expected weight so far in the ongoing Premier League season. They have been included in the Premier League title race of late, as they currently sit in fourth position on the EPL table.
Despite the attacking strength that Chelsea has shown this campaign, they dropped points in their last two games as they found it difficult to break down their opposition's defense.
While striker Nicolas Jackson offers versatility due to his pace, he lacks the physical presence that Maresca demands from his frontman. As such, the Italian manager is looking to bolster his attacking strength.
According to Argentine outlet El Grafico (via Calciomercato), Chelsea are really searching for a true number nine and are exploring the possibility of signing Inter’s Lautaro Martinez. However, given that the Argentine forward recently extended his contract with the Nerazzurri, they consider acquiring his signature as an uphill task.
As such, Chelsea are willing to offer a huge amount of cash plus three other players, including Benoit Badiashile, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Mykhailo Mudryk, to the Serie A outfit for Martinez.
Badiashile is currently out of action due to injury but has only started two Premier League games for the Blues. Chukwuemeka, on the other hand, hasn’t made any feature in any league game for the Blues this term, while Mudryk’s provisional suspension seems to have put him on the chopping block.
Among the trio, Chukwuemeka seems to be the closest to the exit ramp, as it was reported a few days ago that Chelsea want £40 million to part ways with the English midfielder.
Chelsea make five players available in the January transfer window – Reports
Chelsea are reportedly hoping to part ways with five players in the January transfer window as manager Enzo Maresca is eager to reduce the number of players in his squad.
Following a transfer spree in the summer, a lot of players have found themselves on the fringes of Chelsea's squad, with Maresca particularly saying that some players aren’t part of his plans.
The Italian manager has reduced the size of his squad since he took over the managerial reins and will happily allow departures for fringe players in the second transfer window as boss.
According to the BBC, the list is topped by Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka, whom Maresca has said are free to leave permanently. Cesare Casadei is another player that the Blues are looking to part ways with. However, the west London club isn’t actively seeking to sell the Italian prodigy, with a loan move looking more likely.
Harvey Vale is the fourth player on the list. The English midfielder is set to leave on a permanent basis as his contract with the club will expire next summer. Alex Matos is the last player who could also leave on a permanent deal.
