Chelsea are prepared to sell midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the January transfer window, as per reports. This comes after the Blues only just signed him from Leicester City for £30 million months ago, during the summer transfer window.
Indeed, he followed manager Enzo Maresca to Stamford Bridge after a brilliant season leading the Foxes to Premier League promotion. Despite this familiarity with the manager, who played a part in signing the Leicester academy graduate, a move away from the Bridge could be on the cards for Dewsbury-Hall.
The 26-year-old centre midfielder has not had the best start to life at Chelsea. He played 49 games for Leicester last season, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists. However, this season, he has played just 13 games, scoring one goal.
Indeed, eight of his starting appearances have all come in the UEFA Conference League, UECL qualifiers, and the EFL Cup. He has yet to start a single game in the Premier League, while coming off the bench five times for a total of 55 minutes.
According to Football Insider, this lack of playing time has seen Dewsbury-Hall question his future at Chelsea. He would prefer a move elsewhere in January, and the club have reportedly opened the door for him. However, they will require a minimum of £30 million - what they paid to sign him in the summer.
A loan deal would also be accepted at Stamford Bridge, and clubs like Aston Villa have reportedly shown interest in his services.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca speaks to the press ahead of Tottenham clash
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has spoken to the press ahead of the Blues' upcoming match against Tottenham Hotspur. The two sides are set to face off in their Premier League clash at New White Hart Lane on December 8.
Maresca has argued against any notions that the Blues are in the title race, as they currently sit in second place on the league table. This hasn't stopped the Stamford Bridge faithful from praising the manager and the club. However, he told the press (via football.london):
"We are very happy for the fans. They deserve to live this moment. They can dream. We are very happy. We are working every day to make them happy. On the rest [title race], nothing to add. I've said many times, we are not ready to compete with Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City."
Chelsea have impressed in recent weeks and are currently on a six-match unbeaten streak in the league. Since their 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on October 20, they have not lost, and they will look to take this momentum against Tottenham.
