Chelsea are prepared to sell Trevoh Chalobah for £25 million this summer transfer window. The Blues will listen to offers for the defender despite his good form in the second half of the recently concluded season.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Chalobah, 24, continues to be highly rated at Stamford Bridge. However, the centre-back faces an uncertain future at the club as he will face increased competition for a place in the team next term.
Chelsea have Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill in their ranks, while Wesley Fofana is returning from an injury. Alfie Gilchrist's breakthrough, meanwhile, has added competition in central defense. Although Chalobah can play at right-back, Reece James and Malo Gusto are already competing for a spot in the first XI.
Mauricio Pochettino's side are, therefore, expecting offers for Chalobah this summer. They valued the Englishman at £25 million last year and are set to maintain their asking price.
Chalobah could, thus, put an end to his 16-year association with the Premier League giants ahead of the 2024-25 season. This is despite him making a strong end to the recently concluded campaign.
The defender's first senior team appearance for Chelsea in the 2023-24 season came in February, with injuries sidelining him in the first half of the campaign. However, he has since been in fine form, helping the team remain unbeaten in each of his 10 league starts.
Chalobah was the subject of interest from Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest last year. The Bundesliga giants were keen on signing him, but a late move did not materialise and have since signed Eric Dier. It remains to be seen if Spurs are still interested in him.
The former FC Lorient loanee, meanwhile, turned down a move to Nottingham Forest. He is unlikely to consider joining a club that are not competing to qualify for a European competition or have not done so already.
What next for Chelsea and Trevoh Chalobah?
Despite having a largely underwhelming season, a late surge saw them finish sixth in the Premier League, thus qualifying for Europe. The Blues ended the campaign with five consecutive league wins. It now remains to be seen if they will back Mauricio Pochettino for another season.
Trevoh Chalobah was pivotal to the club's winning streak, starting in each of their last five games. He helped them keep two clean sheets in those matches and netted in the team's 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur. Nevertheless, he could leave the club this summer.
Apart from Chalobah, Chelsea are tipped to entertain offers for other homegrown players to ease their financial situation. Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher are among those who could depart. Ian Maatsen is also likely to leave permanently after his loan stint with Borussia Dortmund.
