Chelsea are working to beat Real Madrid and Barcelona in the race to sign Franco Mastantuono, according to TEAMTALK. The Argentinean teenager has earned admirers at multiple clubs worldwide following a string of impressive outings for River Plate.

Considered one of the brightest young talents in the country, Mastantuono reportedly has a £38m release clause in his contract. Interestingly, the release clause could rise to £43m by the end of the window.

The Argentinean club are not eager to let the 17-year-old go this month but remain open to his departure later this year. Mastantuono registered three goals and three assists from 41 games for the senior side last season.

His efforts have convinced Chelsea, who have invested in talented young footballers of late. The Blues are on the rise under Enzo Maresca and want to back the Italian manager with the right players.

Mastantuono's price tag shouldn't be a problem for the London giants either. However, Chelsea will be wary of interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona. Los Blancos have found great joy in the South American market of late and are keeping a close eye on Mastantuono as well.

Real Madrid are also laying down succession plans for Luka Modric, whose contract is set to expire in six months. Mastantuono could be a long-term replacement for the Croatian.

Meanwhile, the Catalans also hold an interest in the Argentinean. Despite burning their hands with Vitor Roque, Barcelona have retained their faith in the South American market and now want Mastantuono.

Real Madrid and Chelsea may have received a boost in their pursuit of Jonathan Tah, who is heavily linked with a move to Barcelona. The German defender's contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires in six months and he has already declared that he won't sign a new deal.

Recent reports have suggested that the Catalans are leading the race for Tah. It has been suggested that Barcelona sporting director Deco initiated contact with the player's camp and has already received a positive response.

However, the club's poor financial situation has raised doubts regarding the move. It is now believed that the Catalans will make a final decision on Tah at the end of this season. That will be music to the ears of Real Madrid and Chelsea, who have the finances to win the race for Tah.
