Cristiano Ronaldo is uncertain about his future at Al-Nassr, as his contract with the Saudi Pro League club is set to expire next summer. Despite nearing 40 years of age, Ronaldo continues to perform at his best in the Middle East.
Ronaldo joined the Knights of Najd early in 2023 after his contract at Manchester United was mutually terminated. While he has enjoyed goalscoring exploits at Al-Nassr, he is yet to win a trophy with the club. Last season, Ronaldo's side finished second on the league table.
It’s starting to look as though the Saudi Pro League title will elude them again this season as they are currently in the fourth position on the table. In Cristiano Ronaldo’s professional career so far, he has won the league title in all the countries where he has played. Al-Hilal are proving a hard nut to crack as they have denied Ronaldo and Al-Nassr multiple trophies.
While Ronaldo is yet to sign a contract extension, he recently cast doubt over his long-term future at the club. Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards, where he won two individual awards, the Portuguese icon revealed that he was open to offers.
He said via Marca:
''You never know what can happen in the future.''
Spanish publication MARCA has also shed more light on Ronaldo’s current situation at Al-Nassr. Sources close to the player confirm two certainties.
The first is Ronaldo remains committed to continuing his playing career, with no plans to retire at this stage. Second, while he is content in Saudi Arabia and has played a pivotal role in elevating the league's profile globally, there remains a possibility that he may pursue a new challenge shortly.
The abovementioned publication further added that Ronaldo wants to win the league with the Knights of Najd before leaving the Middle East. But should he not win the league, it won’t deter him from embracing new projects, provided they are appealing and built on strong foundations that enable him to achieve new milestones and set records.
"I'm happy to play in Saudi Arabia and I want to continue" – Cristiano Ronaldo on whether he will continue playing at Al-Nassr
Cristiano Ronaldo had previously hinted that he could probably retire at Al-Nassr. The Portuguese icon made this revelation back in August while stating that he is happy at the club.
The Portuguese icon told the Portuguese TV channel Now:
"I don't know if I will retire soon, in two or three years, but probably I will retire here at Al-Nassr. I'm happy at this club, I feel good in this country too. I'm happy to play in Saudi Arabia and I want to continue."
Ronaldo has scored 74 goals and provided 18 assists for the Knights of Najd in 83 appearances across competitions.
