Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur could receive a lengthy ban from the English Football Association for allegedly making racist remarks about South Koreans. Bentancur allegedly made these remarks on Uruguayan TV, according to the Daily Mail.

It has also been reported that Bentancur might receive a seven-game ban for his remarks. This incident took place in June earlier this year when the 27-year-old was asked for a teammate's jersey on Uruguayan TV.

Bentancur replied:

"Sonny's?"

He was clearly referencing to teammate Son Heung-min but added it could be the latter's cousin too, since "more or less they are all the same." The FA had confirmed earlier this year that they were charging Bentancur for an 'aggravated breach' of their rules, and are now reportedly close to deciding on his punishment.

The Uruguayan midfielder, who arrived at Tottenham from Juventus in the summer transfer window of 2022, has become one of the fan favourites for his performances on the field. Under Ange Postocoglou, Bentancur has become a regular fixture and has played ten matches in the Premier League this season.

Tottenham Hotspur dealt a big blow with Rodrigo Bentancur's reported suspension

Tottenham will be dealt a big blow with Bentancur's reported impending suspension since he has been one of their best players this season. Spurs have made an indifferent start to the season and are placed 10th in the league table with just 16 points. They have only won five out of their 11 games this season.

Spurs were dealt a massive setback when they were beaten 1-2 by newly promoted Ipswich Town at home in their last game on Sunday, 10 November. Rodrigo Bentancur got on the scoresheet for his team in the 69th minute of this game. They will now return to action after the November international break when they face Manchester City away on 23 November.
