Barcelona's attempts to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor has taken another twist. Journalist Gerard Romero has shared club president Joan Laporta's WhatsApp status which has provided a new angle to the Catalans' war with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga.

Barcelona signed the Spanish duo last summer but could only register them until the end of the year. They were previously confident of re-registering Olmo and Victor by Friday, January 3.

However, it now appears that LaLiga has no intention of doing so. The Catalans are now in danger of losing both players for free unless they are registered soon.

On Friday night, Laporta briefly shared a message - seemingly from RFEF - on WhatsApp status that outlined why Barcelona was confident of securing registration for both players. The message read:

“The RFEF, having heard the arguments of the FCB, shares them in that art. 130.2 RFEF Regulation is NOT applicable to the Dani Olmo/Pau Víctor case, since, in said case, the withdrawal of said players has occurred, not due to the will of the club (which is what this article provides for) but due to factors outside and contrary to the will of the club."

It continued:

"It is an undisputed fact that both the club and the players want to continue in the FCB squad for the entire duration of the season. This interpretation of the rule is consistent with the obvious purpose of said article, which is precisely to promote the stability of the composition of the player squads, so that…”

Player licenses are approved by RFEF, but they can only do so under instruction from LaLiga.

Do Barcelona have a plan B to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor?

Dani Olmo's future remains unclear
Dani Olmo's future remains unclear

Barcelona are fast exhausting their options of registering Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. The former RB Leipzig midfielder has done very well under Hansi Flick so far.

Olmo has registered six goals and one assist from 15 games across competitions. Flick will be eager to have him around as he tries to wade out of troubled waters, with the Catalans currently in a poor run of form.

Barcelona seemingly have another trick up their sleeves to keep hold of both players, although it will only be deployed as a last resort. The club will briefly terminate both player's contracts until the end of the season. However, they will be re-signed this summer.
