Former Manchester United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing a move back to the Premier League as he grows frustrated with current team Fenerbahce. The Portuguese coach is currently contracted till the summer of 2026, but may be on the move slightly sooner.
According to The Guardian, the former Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma manager has enquired about the happenings at Newcastle United (via Mirror). It is believed that the Magpies' current head coach Eddie Howe's long-term future is not secure in Tyneside.
Newcastle endured a poor run of form in the Premier League until they recently managed to beat Arsenal 1-0 at St. James' Park on November 2. However, they're still in a spot of bother in the league standings, placed 11th, with 15 points in 10 matches.
To make matters more interesting, the report claims that Mourinho met with Newcastle chairman Yasir al-Rumayyan at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in March. It is believed that the two have maintained contact, increasing the possibility of the ex-Manchester United boss' return to England.
Mourinho has also publicly come out and spoken against the Turkish league, saying (via Mirror):
"In the end, I'm working in Turkey. It's not my country. I care because it's my job and I care because it's my club. But I think you Turkish, you should care about it! You Turkish, you should speak, not me. You should denounce. You should say what is going on, year after year."
With the current state of things, the Magpies may benefit from having a serial winner in Mourinho at their club. The 61-year-old has won three Premier League titles and an FA Cup, among other honors in England.
Former Chelsea star says he would love to see Manchester United and Arsenal target at Stamford Bridge
John Obi Mikel believes Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, a player who has been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal, would do extremely well if he joined Chelsea.
The comments came after the Sweden international scored a hat-trick against Manchester City on Tuesday (November 05). When asked if he should join Chelsea, Obi Mikel said on his podcast (via Metro):
"Definitely. For me, he is a Premier League player, he’s a player that suits the Premier League. He has every attribute to be a Premier League player, strong, big, quick, and most importantly goalscoring."
It seems as though Chelsea aren't in need of a new striker, with Nicolas Jackson in hot form. However, Manchester United have had their struggles with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee's performances up top.
