Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was asked why the Red Devils are 13th in the Premier League standings this season. The Portuguese tactician stated that if he knew the answer, he would solve the club's problems instantly.
United suffered a 3-0 loss against Bournemouth on Sunday, December 22, their seventh defeat of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign. They will face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their next league assignment on Thursday.
Amorim was asked why United are 13th in the league in the pre-match press conference. He said (via BeanymanSports):
"If I knew, I would solve all the problems of this club! Even this (leak)!.”
Amorim's comment regarding the leak referred to a section of the Old Trafford roof which leaked during his press conference after the defeat to Bournemouth.
Despite losing three out of six league games in his stint so far, Amorim can't be fully held accountable for the Red Devils' woes. He inherited a team which had been underperforming and lacks the players to implement his preferred 3-4-3 system.
However, the Red Devils hierarchy might be looking to bolster the squad for Amorim in the upcoming January transfer window.
"I'm just focused on the performance" - Ruben Amorim on Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford
Manchester United's head coach has also provided an update on Marcus Rashford, who has been left out of the squad for the club's last three games. Rashford's omission for the Manchester derby Sunday came as a shock and he has since been excluded for games against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup and Bournemouth in the league.
Amorim said about Rashford (via Fabrizio Romano):
"For me, as a coach, I'm just focused on the performance, the way he trains.”
He added:
"The rest, it's better for me and the club to deal with that when the time comes.”
Rashford's future at Old Trafford has been a subject of debate among football pundits in recent weeks.
However, Amorim has claimed that he's focused on the player's development and performance on the pitch. Rashford has scored seven goals and registered three assists in 24 games this season.
It remains to be seen if he will be named in the Red Devils' squad for their upcoming game against Wolves on Thursday (December 26).
