Barcelona president Joan Laporta has decided to sell 22-year-old Ansu Fati, as per the latest reports. The La Masia graduate was once one of the most sought-after talents in Europe, with clubs like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain offering around €100 million to sign him. However, incessant injury concerns and underwhelming performances have made the higher-ups at La Blaugrana lose faith in him.
Ansu Fati made his debut for the senior team as a 16-year-old in August 2019. In his first season for the Catalan giants, he played 33 games, registering eight goals and a solitary assist. While the start was promising, things started going downhill after he suffered a meniscus tear in November 2020, which sidelined him for 305 days.
In 2023, the Spaniard was sent on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion. However, he scored just four goals and one assist in 27 appearances for them. After returning to Barcelona, Fati has made just seven appearances across competitions this season, registering no goal contributions.
According to El Nacional, Joan Laporta considers him a 'rotten apple' and the club is looking to offload him soon. His €268,269-per-week contract with Barcelona will last until 2027, but the club is looking at potential transfer offers before his market value lowers even further.
During his first few months at the club, Ansu Fati demonstrated a penchant for getting into goalscoring positions and scoring bangers in crucial moments. However, the Spaniard hasn't scored a goal for his club in more than a year. The last time he scored for Barcelona was on November 9, 2023, against Ajax in the Europa League.
Nike want Lamine Yamal to take Lionel Messi's no. 10 jersey at Barcelona instead of Ansu Fati: Reports
According to El Nacional, Nike have implored the Catalan giants to hand Lionel Messi's iconic No. 10 jersey to La Masia sensation Lamine Yamal. They believe the 17-year-old is the appropriate successor to La Pulga's shirt number.
Lamine Yamal has been earmarked by many as one of the best players of the upcoming generation. The 17-year-old made his debut for La Blaugrana against Real Betis in April 2023 and has since been unstoppable for the Catalan giants. This season, he has registered 12 assists while scoring six goals in 21 games across competitions.
At present, Ansu Fati, who was once compared to the Argentine genius when he made his senior team debut, dons the No. 10 shirt for Barca. However, Nike want Fati to be given a new number because of his underwhelming performances and injury concerns.
Yamal wears jersey No. 19, which Lionel Messi wore between 2005 and 2008.
