Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was reportedly keen to replace Mohamed Salah with Manchester United forward Antony ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Earlier in 2022, Salah signed his last contract extension until June 2025 following a summer full of transfer speculations. The 32-year-old was reportedly linked with an exit prior to committing his future to the Reds.

According to The Times journalist Paul Joyce, Klopp even discussed the possibility of signing Antony as a potential replacement for Salah in the summer of 2022. But, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) president Mike Gordon stepped in and offered Salah a £350,000-a-week contract.

Meanwhile, Antony reunited with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United as he left Ajax in a potential £86 million deal in 2022. However, the Brazilian has struggled to live up to expectations since joining the Red Devils.

Antony, who has made just five appearances across competitions this season, has fallen down his club's pecking order of late. The 24-year-old has registered just 12 goals and five assists in 85 total games for United.

Salah, on the other hand, has proved to be one of Liverpool's most influential stars since penning his last contract extension at the Merseyside club. He has produced 65 goals and 40 goals in 112 matches across all competitions for his club since the start of the 2022-23 season.

The ex-Chelsea and AS Roma man will next be in action for Liverpool this Sunday (November 24). He is expected to start the Reds' Premier League away contest at newly promoted side Southampton this weekend.

Journalist asserts Manchester United-linked ace will secure permanent move to Liverpool

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, reporter Marcel Reif stated that Manchester United target Omar Marmoush is likely to join the Reds in the future. He remarked (h/t Empire of the Kop):

"It's no secret that he will likely move to Liverpool next summer. I would bet a few euros on that as the successor to his great idol Mo Salah. Things can hardly go better for him."

Marmoush, who is Mohamed Salah's international teammate, has lately impressed fans and pundits alike with his clinical performances. The 25-year-old Egyptian has bagged 14 goals and laid out 10 assists in 16 appearances across competitions for Frankfurt this campaign.

Should the Manchester United-linked striker join Liverpool, he could prove to be an excellent signing for them. He would offer good competition to both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota in Arne Slot's 4-2-3-1 system.
