La Liga side Real Betis are allegedly prepared to launch a move to rope in Manchester United winger Antony in the upcoming January transfer window.
Antony, 24, has proved to be a disappointing signing for the Red Devils since arriving in a £86 million switch from Ajax in the summer of 2022. The left-footed winger has helped his current club win one FA Cup and one EFL Cup so far.
The 16-cap Brazil international has fallen down the Old Trafford side's pecking order since the start of the ongoing 2024-25 campaign. He has started just three of his 12 appearances in all competitions for Ruben Amorim's side this term.
Now, according to Spanish outlet ABC de Sevilla, Real Betis are interested in adding Antony to their squad next January. Manchester United are open to parting ways with the Brazilian star, both on permanent and temporary basis, soon.
Overall, Antony has featured in 94 matches across all competitions for the Red Devils. He has scored 12 times and provided five assists for his current club.
Ruben Amorim shares two cents on relegation chances after latest Manchester United defeat
Earlier this Monday (December 30), Manchester United slumped to a 2-0 Premier League loss to Newcastle United in front of their home crowd. Alexander Isak and Joelinton scored a goal each in the first half of the league contest.
After the end of the clash, Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim was asked whether his side are in a relegation battle this season. He replied to Sky Sports (h/t Metro):
"That is really clear and we have to fight. It is a really difficult moment, one of the more difficult moments in the history of Manchester United and we have to address it with honesty and to be clear with that, we have to fight next game."
At a post-game press conference, the ex-Sporting CP boss was asked if it was embarrassing to talk about relegation. He responded (h/t Metro):
"Yeah. It's also my fault in this moment. I think the team is not improved. It's a little bit lost in this moment. It's a little bit embarrassing to be Manchester United coach and lose a lot of games but we have to cope with difficult moments in life. It's a hard moment. I'm responsible, I don't like to arrive here and make excuses."
The Red Devils, who finished eighth last season, are in 14th place in the Premier League table with a meagre 22 points from 19 matches so far.
