LaLiga are all set to appeal the decision from the Spanish Higher Sports Council (CSD) to allow Barcelona to field Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, according to Mundo Deportivo. The Catalans signed both players last summer but could only manage to register them until the end of 2024 after failing to meet the league's salary cap restrictions.
Olmo and Victor's registration stood invalid at the turn of the year and made them ineligible to feature for the Spanish giants. Barcelona tried multiple options to meet the LaLiga's requirements but they were all turned down by the league.
The Catalans finally approached CSD, who granted them the precautionary measure, allowing the temporary re-registration of the duo. As things, stand, Olmo and Victor will both be available for selection for the Supercopa de Espana final against Real Madrid on Sunday, January 12.
However, it now appears that the league haven't taken the matter lightly. Several clubs have apparently approached LaLiga regarding the matter and expressed their concern.
The league have implemented the temporary registration for the Barcelona duo on Thursday, but that action is independent of their next move. They have already released a statement announcing that the matter will be examined carefully before deciding their course of action.
The LaLiga authorities have now decided to appeal CSD's decision before the Administrative Litigation Court and ask for the precautionary measure to be annulled.
Will Barcelona offload Eric Garcia in January?
Barcelona are unlikely to offload Eric Garcia this month, according to Barca Universal. The Spanish defender is a peripheral figure at Camp Nou and has struggled for game time under Hansi Flick. Garcia has registered 15 appearances across competitions this season but only six of them have been starts.
With Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez the preferred center-back option under Flick, Garcia's situation is unlikely to change any time soon. The 24-year-old, as such, remains linked with an exit from the Catalans this month. However, the LaLiga giants are not planning to let him go just yet.
Ronald Araujo remains the most likely candidate to leave Barcelona in January, with Juventus and Arsenal hot on his heels. The Catalans have no desire to lose two central defenders in one window.
The player is not looking to leave Camp Nou in the middle of the season either, despite the rising interest in his services. His contract expires in 2026, so a summer move could be a possibility.
