Dani Olmo's situation at Barcelona has become one of the major developments as we enter the January transfer window. While there is confusion as to whether he can play for the club or not, LaLiga appears to have denied any extension for a potential registration.

Barca signed Olmo from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2024. However, their dire financial issues meant that they couldn't register him. It was only after Andreas Christensen's injury that the Spanish giants registered Olmo as a replacement. However, that registration period ended on December 31, 2024.

The Blaugrana issued a statement on Tuesday, which read:

"FC Barcelona informs that it has applied for a new license for the players Daniel Olmo and Pau Víctor to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Club would like to deny having requested or receiving any moratorium to any governing body for these inscriptions."

However, LaLiga have hit back at this statement, writing that Olmo and Pau Victor haven't been registered. Their statement read:

“La Liga informs that, as of today, December 31, FC Barcelona has not presented any alternative that, in compliance with La Liga's economic control regulations, would allow it to register any player from next January 2."

It is still unclear whether Dani Olmo will be able to stay at the club or will have to leave. If not, he'll likely leave as a free agent in January.

Dani Olmo's agent asserts that his client wants to stay at Barcelona

Amidst all the confusion, Dani Olmo's agent Andy Bara has asserted that his client does not want to leave the club in January. He told GiveMeSport:

"The decision made by Dani is to stay at Barcelona as he wants to play for Barça. We are not considering any other option. Dani wants to play for Barca."

Dani Olmo came through Barca's famed La Masia academy before joining Dinamo Zagreb in 2014. He then moved to RB Leipzig in 2020 and recorded 29 goals and 34 assists in 148 games for them. He eventually returned to his boyhood club for a reported fee of €62.5 million earlier this summer.

While he wants to stay at the club, he might not have a say in it. Barcelona recently got a cash injection worth €100 million after selling some VIP seats in the new Camp Nou. However, it doesn't appear to be enough to register Olmo, as per LaLiga.

The likes of Manchester United and Manchester City are monitoring the Spaniard's situation for a potential January transfer.
