Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal has reportedly informed sporting director Deco that he would like to play alongside his compatriot Nico Williams at the club next summer. La Blaugrana's transfer interest in the 22-year-old Athletic Bilbao winger is not new, as they tried to sign him last summer.
Williams is one of the most sought-after players in the European transfer market owing to his versatility and speed. The Spaniard has recorded two goals and five assists in 25 appearances for Athletic Bilbao across competitions this season. Williams was exceptional for Spain in the 2024 Euros, having scored a goal in the 2-1 win over England in the final.
Despite garnering interest from Barcelona and other European clubs in the summer of 2024, Nico Williams chose to stay at Athletic Bilbao. However, Barca are reportedly not planning to give up on his signing.
Latest reports from El Nacional indicate that Lamine Yamal is keen on playing alongside his compatriot Nico Williams at Barcelona next season. Yamal had reportedly been in close contact with Williams in the summer of 2024 to convince him to join Barca. Although it did not materialize, the 17-year-old believes he could still be a great addition to the team owing to his ability to play on both wings.
Yamal and Williams also formed a great combination in the attack during the 2024 Euros, leading Spain to the trophy. The potential signing of Williams could strengthen their left wing, with only Raphinha covering the position this season.
However, the Brazilian has been in lethal form this season, recording 19 goals and 11 assists in 27 outings for La Blaugrana.
