Ligue 1 club makes fresh £29 million demands for 21-year-old star wanted by Chelsea and Liverpool: Reports

Both Enzo Maresca
Both Enzo Maresca's side and Arne Slot's outfit are keen to sign Rayan Cherki.

Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyonnais have allegedly slapped a price tag of £29 million on Liverpool and Chelsea-linked forward Rayan Cherki.

According to Foot Mercato, Lyon are keen to raise funds by selling a few players to resolve their current financial crisis. They have identified Cherki as a potential sale with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea interested.

Earlier this summer, Lyon were willing to sell the 21-year-old versatile star for over £12 million as he was in the final year of his contract. However, with Cherki's deal now set to expire in 2026, the Ligue 1 side have set an asking price of around £29 million for the attacker.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly in a position to satisfy Lyon's demands. However, with the French club's debts amounting to around £422 million, the Reds and the Blues could both try to lower the price.

Since making his debut in 2019, Cherki has contributed 19 goals and 28 assists in 152 matches across all competitions for his boyhood club.

Ex-Premier League defender backs Chelsea to compete against Liverpool in ongoing title race

Speaking recently to Gambling Zone, ex-Manchester City defender Richard Dunne stated that the Blues are good enough to compete for the Premier League title this season. He said (h/t football.london):

"With the way the season has started, there's going to be maybe a couple more teams who are capable of putting themselves in the title race with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal because the league is so competitive and every team is capable of winning games. Chelsea can keep themselves involved."

Dunne, who also played for Aston Villa and Everton, concluded:

"They seem to have really got themselves together for the first time in ages, because for the last few years, they were all over the place. They've really got themselves together, they're playing really well and they've obviously got a strong squad. I think they can put together a decent season. The season is set up for an exciting title race and hopefully there will be three or four involved in it."

Liverpool are leading the Premier League standings with 28 points from 11 outings so far. Manchester City are second with 25 points, while Chelsea and Arsenal have both won 19 points from 11 league matches.

Enzo Maresca's side will next lock horns with EFL Championship holders Leicester City at King Power Stadium this Saturday (November 23).
