Liverpool and Arsenal have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Barcelona target Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich.

According to Marca, the two Premier League clubs are set to rival Barca for the signing of Kimmich. Bayern are demanding €60 million for the German midfielder, who has two years left on his contract.

Kimmich, 28, is one of the Bavarians' most valuable players and is at the heart of their midfield. He has featured 46 times across competitions this season, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists.

Barcelona are looking to replace Sergio Busquets, as the veteran midfielder has decided to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season. However, a move for Kimmich could prove difficult from a financial aspect. The Blaugrana need to take €200 million off their wage bill.

Moreover, Arsenal and Liverpool's interest only further jeopardises their potential pursuit for the German. The Gunners have qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2017. Hence, Mikel Arteta is eager to bolster his midfield.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp's side have had a less successful season but still have hopes of a top-four finish. Regardless of whether the Merseysiders qualify for the Champions League, they're expected to overhaul their midfield in the summer.

Kimmich joined Bayern from VfB Stuttgart in 2015 for a mere €8.5 million. He has made 346 appearances for Der FCB, scoring 40 goals and contributing 94 assists.

The German has won the Bundesliga seven times at the Allianz Arena. Hence, he has an abundance of experience and would be an astute signing for either Barca, Arsenal or Liverpool.

Arsenal and Liverpool target Joshua Kimmich idolised Barcelona manager Xavi

Arsenal and Liverpool's potential pursuit of Kimmich may be hindered by his adoration for Barcelona boss Xavi. The German has admitted that the former Blaugran midfielder is his idol:

"My role model was always Xavi Hernandez from Barcelona. He was never the greatest but had an eye for the game, passing, technique. He was always trying to put others in the limelight."

Xavi carved out an iconic career during his playing time at the Camp Nou. He made 767 appearances, scoring 85 goals and providing 184 assists. The Spaniard won four Champions League and eight La Liga titles.

Kimmich boasts similar ball-playing abilities to Xavi and is excellent in possession. The Bayern midfielder could have the opportunity to play under his idol if he opts to join Barcelona.
