Liverpool begin negotiations to beat Chelsea in race to sign £20 million-rated striker: Reports

According to Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool are already in advanced talks with Bundesliga 2 side 1. FC Nürnberg in a bid to pip Chelsea in the race to sign 19-year-old Greek forward Stefanos Tzimas.

Tzimas, who joined Nürnberg on a season-long loan from his boyhood club PAOK Salonika, has been impressive so far for the German club. He has scored eight goals and provided two assists in fourteen league appearances for Nürnberg.

Liverpool and Chelsea, who are poised to make reinforcements to their respective squads this season, are reportedly impressed by the numbers that Stefanos Tzimas has put out for Nürnberg considering his age. As such, both teams have identified him as one of their transfer targets.

However, Liverpool has now taken proactive action by commencing talks with Nürnberg about the potential transfer of Tzimas in the summer. As per the abovementioned report, there was a phone call between the Merseyside club and Bundesliga 2 side and the former has also spoken to the player's camp.

However, Nürnberg are planning to take advantage of the purchase option of £15 million (€18m) on Stefanos Tzimas in order to resell him in the summer for a fixed transfer fee of £20 million (€25m).

The report further adds that Tzimas is also attracting interest from Bundesliga clubs and Premier League sides like Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa.

Former Chelsea player urges Liverpool to sign Manchester City defender

Former Chelsea centre-back Jason Cundy has urged Liverpool to make a bold move for Manchester City wantaway defender Kyle Walker. Cundy's comments came on the back of Trent Alexander-Arnold's contract situation at Anfield. Arnold has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and Cundy sees Walker as a replacement for the Reds defender.

A few days ago, Pep Guardiola also revealed Walker's intention to ''explore options'' to play abroad amid the defender's dip in form of late.

Cundy believes that Walker will be a good signing for the Reds should Arnold leave the club. He stated on talkSPORT that Walker would start for Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham despite losing a yard of pace.

Cundy said:

"So it looks like Trent is leaving, why don't Liverpool sign him? There you go, he’d be a good signing for Liverpool if Trent goes. I know they’ve got the young kid [Conor Bradley] coming through…
''By the way, he's still quick – and if Trent is leaving… Kyle Walker would get in Liverpool’s team, he’d get in Spurs’ team. He’d get in Man United’s team, he’d get in Chelsea’s team. Would he get in Arsenal’s team? He’d get in Arsenal’s team. He’s better than [Ben] White!"

Answering a question on if a move to Saudi Arabia will be a good move for Walker, Cundy added:

"Of course, he could [make the switch to Saudi Arabia], I just don't think he is ready yet. If he gets offered £600,000-a-week to go and play in Saudi, I'm not going to criticize him, that to me makes sense."
"Yes, he's lost a yard of pace, but Kyle Walker's pace is still a match for most in this league. I think the fact that he [Guardiola] said he wants to go abroad, he's done it in England, he's won everything there is to win, go and do something abroad. I get that, I see that, that shows bravery that he wants to go abroad and prove himself."

The Cityzens will return to Premier League action away to Brentford later today (January 14).
