Liverpool have been handed a transfer blow as Torino's Per Schuurs has suffered an ACL injury. The Reds were linked with a move for the defender in the summer and reports suggested that they were set to revisit the interest in January.
As per a report in LiverpoolWorld, Torino were open to selling the defender for €40 million when the window reopens. They were aware of the interest from the Reds while also keeping an eye on Crystal Palace and West Ham United, who were also linked with the defender.
However, the ACL injury is now set to keep the defender out until the end of the season. He suffered the injury in the 3-0 defeat to Inter Milan in Serie A after colliding with Nico Barella.
The injury has all but ended Liverpool's interest for the January window as the defender will be unable to play until the summer.
John Aldridge suggests Liverpool sign Everton player
John Aldridge has backed Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite to make a sensational move to Liverpool. He believes that the Toffees defender has all the abilities to shine at the top stage and has urged Jurgen Klopp to get the deal done.
In his interview with LiverpoolECHO, Aldridge claimed that Branthwaite is on Manchester United's radar. But, he added, the Reds should be jumping on the chance if he is ready to make the switch to Anfield.
"The fact Jurgen Klopp even talked him up before the game in his pre-match press conference was interesting. He is likely to be on the radar of other teams as well. Manchester United have already been mentioned as a possible destination, but it's up to Everton over what they do with him.
"Branthwaite recently signed a new contract with Everton too. I'm looking at Everton's team and, if you want to go forward as a club, those are the type of players you have to keep around. Whether or not Everton can do that, only time will tell."
He added:
"A left-sided centre-back is something we were in the market for during the summer transfer window, which we didn't end up signing in the end. If we were to make a move for Branthwaite, he would probably cost a significant amount due to the English premium that we so often see in the game.
"Coming to Liverpool would be hard for the lad. It takes a bit of doing to make that switch across Stanley Park. I don't want to upset anyone, I will stress that again, but I think he has a really bright future."
Klopp's side were linked with Chelsea's Levi Colwill, but the Englishman decided to stay at Stamford Bridge. He also signed a new long-term deal at the club when the new season started. So, now they will have to look elsewhere for a defender. Could Branthwaite be the right person?
