Liverpool are reportedly interested in snapping up Kasimpasa SK star Yasin Ozcan to strengthen their defensive depth ahead of the start of their 2024-25 campaign.
Ozcan, who was shortlisted for the Golden Boy award earlier this year, has popped up as one of the most promising defenders in Europe of late. He has made 60 total appearances for his boyhood club so far.
Last season, Ozcan helped Kasimpasa secure a fifth-placed finish in the Super Lig table. The left-footed defender started 36 of his 40 appearances in all competitions and registered three goals as well.
Now, according to Turkish outlet Ajanspor, Liverpool are in the transfer race to sign Ozcan this summer. However, Besiktas have lodged an offer to sign the 18-year-old, who is adept at operating as a left-back.
Should Ozcan seal a permanent switch to the Reds this summer, he would pop up as a star for the future. He would likely offer fine competition for places to the likes of Jarell Quansah and Sepp van den Berg.
Jamie Carragher opines on Liverpool's lack of signings, urges supporters to not worry
Speaking to SPORTbible, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher stated that Reds fans should relax and not worry about their team's lack of transfer activity. He opined:
"No, they're not right to be concerned. You've got to trust the club. What this club has done with transfer fees over the last eight to 10 years has been phenomenal. We've got the structure back at the club that everybody wanted. Trust them, let them do their job."
Carragher, who played for the Merseyside outfit 737 times, continued:
"Liverpool are a very good team so it's not easy to go and find players who are better than what you've got. That's the only reason you should be bringing players in anyway and you've also got a manager who doesn't know the squad yet either."
Sharing further thoughts on his former club's summer, Carragher said:
"I could probably understand the frustration if Jurgen Klopp was still the manager because we want to get our business done early, he knows the squad better than anyone and knows exactly what we need. Arne Slot will be listening to [CEO of Football] Michael Edwards and [sporting director] Richard Hughes but you want to see things with your own eyes, all the players aren't even back yet."
The Reds, who finished third in the Premier League last season, are believed to be keen to sign a midfielder and a defender this summer.
Liverpool are yet to sign a single player in the ongoing transfer window.
