Liverpool to face tough competition from Premier League rivals for Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement: Reports

Trent Alexander-Arnold could leave Liverpool on a free next summer.

Liverpool are reportedly set to face competition from north London outfit Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Devyne Rensch, who has been identified as a successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds are currently in danger of losing Alexander-Arnold next summer as their vice-captain is in the final year of his contract. The 26-year-old right-back has been heavily linked with La Liga champions Real Madrid.

Now, according to Spanish outlet Sport, Liverpool are interested in adding Rensch to their ranks in the near future. However, Tottenham and Barcelona have recently joined the race to sign the 21-year-old Ajax defender.

Rensch, whose Ajax contract will expire next June, could decide to leave Ajax next January. If he is keen to join Liverpool, he could also opt to wait until the end of the campaign and secure a Bosman move to the Reds.

Since making his debut in November 2020, Rensch has played 147 games across all competitions for Ajax. The versatile right-back has found the back of the net 10 times and laid out 12 assists for his boyhood club.

Liverpool star labels Southampton 'bit unlucky'

Ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash at Southampton this Sunday, Caoimhin Kelleher shared his honest thoughts on the newly promoted team. He told his club media:

"The manager was saying that again this week. As players we know ourselves, they're a really good team. I think they've just been a bit unlucky with results and stuff. But they play a great style of football, they're really good with the ball and they create lots of chances. We're expecting a really tough game. I don't think we're looking at the league position too much."

Kelleher, who is set to start between the sticks on Sunday, added:

"We as players and the staff as well know, we're not silly. We know how good they are and the quality that these players have. I think sometimes the results don't reflect the quality that's in the actual team. You need to take every team in this league very seriously or else you'll end up not getting good results. We're going to prepare as if we're playing Manchester City or Chelsea or an Arsenal."

The Anfield club are atop the 2024-25 Premier League table with 28 points from 11 games, while Russell Martin's side are 20th with just four points.

Arne Slot's side have recorded 11 victories, one draw, and just one loss in their last 13 games across competitions against their upcoming opponents.
